CBSR's The Climate Change Guide

CBSR’s ‘The Climate Change Guide’ was launched in Toronto in November 2007 and has been praised by corporations, NGOs and governments within and outside of Canada for it’s presentation of balanced information in addition to its practical application.

‘The Climate Change Guide' is the first of it’s kind in directly answering a corporate need within Canada to provide a functional, step-by-step manual to responsibilities, opportunities and risks regarding climate change to equip practitioners as we head into a new era of corporate accountability.

The Guide was researched and written with member company Westport Innovations Inc., to address where Canada sits in regards to climate mitigation. Thirteen Canadian corporations we interviewed candidly to present their stories and challenges in implementing climate strategy. In addition the Guide provides handy ‘top ten’ tips on a range of climate-related issues as well as showcasing other examples of best practice within industry, tools and other resources to refer to.

Report Assessment Tool - focused and relevant CSR reporting
Based on members' demand for a focused and relevant tool to assist them in CSR/Sustainability reporting, CBSR has developed a new Report Assessment Tool developed to address two key areas:

  • CBSR Reporting Principles  - the WHAT of a report; includes principles such as Materiality, Completeness, Credibility and Transparency, Context and Scope and Comparability
  • CBSR Communication Principles - the HOW of report communication; includes CBSR 10 principles to CSR Communications.

Since launching this initiative in 2006, CBSR has had a flurry of member queries regarding application of the Report Assessment Tool. Please contact Myrna Khan to find out how this tool can add to your company's CSR reporting initiative.

Seeing is Believing Tour – Led by Kevin Bent, President and Publisher, Pacific Newspaper Group and Geoff Plant, Commissioner, Project Civil City

Kevin Bent and Geoff Plant hosted other prominent Vancouver business leaders on June 26, 2008 as Pacific Newspaper Group sponsored a Seeing is Believing Tour focused on finding solutions to homelessness. The tour visited four different community organizations, each taking a different approach to the issue: Potluck Café Society, United We Can, Coast Mental Health, and Urban Native Youth Association. The four community projects showcased the success of social enterprise, supportive housing, and skills training programs in bringing people off the street. Participants spoke at length with organization staff and clientele and concluded the day with a roundtable discussion on business’ role in addressing the issue.
